Melbourne indie-pop artist, Ariela Jacobs has just released her gorgeous title track from her sophomore EP Yesteryear, due for release early 2016. She received great response from her debut EP, This, which she released independently in 2014 and saw her gain national air play, a spot on ITunes USA’s ‘New and Upcoming’ category and supporting the likes of Ella Hooper and Dustin Tebbutt. Yesteryear comes off the back of the first released single off the EP, Sandman and describes the release of the title track as ‘premature’ as she was ‘eager to share this song online for ages’ according to her Facebook page.
Yesteryear is a delicate blend of folk and pop music with raw, emotive and honest lyrics. Ariela Jacobs’ captivating angelic vocals sits in the forefront of the track with a simple, constant beat and delicate, distant guitars in the background. Lyrically the track is nostalgic and yearning for a prior time, with haunting lyrics such as ‘my bones are tired’ and ‘I can’t make it on my own.’ Ariela stunningly expresses her heartfelt lyrics through atmospherically breathy tones and melancholy vocals. Although it is quite emotive and sad, the more upbeat chorus gives a sense of hope and optimism.
Ariela Jacobs gorgeously blends folk and pop with whimsical, nostalgic vocals in Yesteryear and with her already sweet, dreamy release of Sandman, gives an amazing insight into what is yet to come with her Yesteryear EP release.
Ariela Jacobs’ Yesteryear EP will be available February 1st 2016.
