Fresh pop superstars Billie Eilish and Khalid showcase their raw talent with their new-stripped back, ethereal release. Written by the pair and Eilish’s brother, Finneas (who also produced the track), the simply titled ‘lovely’, is nothing short of an epic, acoustic tune; if such a thing exists.
With only a piano, strings, minimalistic percussive beats and two very wonderful voices, this track is proof that you don’t need a whole lot of bells and whistles to create a whole lot of magic.
As Eilish begins the track, Khalid vocals echo hers, weaving in and out before the two voices blend together. They continue this push and pull, seamlessly switching between singing together in unison and other times, in perfect harmony; one voice never in competition with the other. Combined with perfectly timed anti-climaxes, plucked strings and even a violin solo that makes an appearance towards the end of the track; the result is other-worldly.
The sixteen-year-old Billie Eilish has certainly been one busy lady since dropping singles from her debut EP release ‘Don’t Smile At Me’. Having just completed a 3-month global tour, which included sold out headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne, she’s currently recording her debut album ahead of festival performances in the US.
