If you haven’t heard of NEU NOW, now’s the time to familiarise yourself. A live arts festival and all-round cultural extravaganza which takes place in Amsterdam, NEU NOW celebrates artistic brilliance through a varied and far-reaching slate of cutting edge presentations and activities.
As much an online celebration as a live, in-person sensory delight; NEU NOW offers unparalleled opportunities for emerging artists to showcase their work, mingle with other artists and inspiring minds, and forge new international partnerships. The festival prides itself on fostering a creative space, both physical and cyber, which allows artists, audiences, producers, and curators to get together and celebrate great art.

Not only focussed on the art itself, NEU NOW is also a forum where artists and people in the industry of art—producers, curators, cultural operators, and policy makers—can get together and hash out the future of the arts industry, and share their views on the cultural role of higher arts education institutions.
So, with all of that in mind, you might be wondering who can participate in NEU NOW? Well, the festival is open to recent arts graduates and students in their final year of study at Higher Arts Education Institutions across Europe and beyond; schools which are ELIA members; ELIA associate members; or ELIA non-European members.

Artists hoping to make a nomination to NEU NOW—either as individuals or groups or collectives—must be nominated by a representative of their (former) institution within the categories of Design and/or Architecture; Film and/or Animation; Music and/or Sound; Theatre and/or Dance; or Visual Arts. Artists cannot apply directly and must be nominated by a representative of their (former) institution, such as a professor or department head.
Artists who make it through to selection for NEU NOW will be judged by a jury of 15 international experts representing each of the five categories. The works selected will be bold contributions to their field, will demonstrate a professional standard, are likely to be stimulating to festival organisers and professionals working in their field, will be appealing to an international audience, and will contribute to the presentation of a diverse range of works within their category.

There is no limit to the number of artists who can be nominated by one nominator or institution. However, in the interests of diversity, only in exceptional cases will more than one artist or ensemble from any one institution be selected to participate in the live festival in Amsterdam within a given discipline.
All of the technical jargon associated with these kinds of things can be intimidating. So take a minute, take a breath, and have a look at this:
NEU NOW is very genuinely one of the most exciting arts festivals around. They work hard at promoting up-and-coming artists and are passionate about celebrating new generations of creative artistic talent from around the world. They love great art, and they always put on a stellar show.
