Camp Cope Release Impressive Video for ‘The Opener’ and Announce Tour Supports

Fresh off the back of their amazing call-out of Falls Festival over the lack of female representation at the festival, Camp Cope have dropped an impressive video for their song ‘The Opener’. Filmed in the iconic Utzon Room of the Sydney Opera House, the video showcases the band against the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour and the Botanic Gardens. ‘The Opener’ is a hard-hitting song about being women in the music industry, and the ways in which men in the industry disregard them. As a perfect contradiction to this mentality, the video marks the first time a band of only female members has been filmed live at the Opera House – and they’re also the first punk band. To top it all off, it was filmed during their run of sold-out shows at the House last year as part of Vivid LIVE. Not only are Camp Cope calling out those who believe women can’t be as successful in music as men, they’re actively proving them wrong.

Additionally, they’re more than willing to put their money where their mouths are. Every act supporting their tour in March consist of non-male members. American four-piece Chastity Belt will be joining Camp Cope for the whole tour, while each stop will also have killer local supports, including Erica Freas (RVIVR), Waterfall Person, Kelly Lloyd (Screamfeeder), She’s The Band, Moaning Lisa, The Nah and Sports Bra. With Adelaide and Melbourne already sold out, it’s likely that the other dates will follow. As Georgia Maq puts it in ‘The Opener’: “Tell me again how there just aren’t that many girls in the music scene.”
