The 24-year-old singer and producer Cautious Clay aka Josh Karpeh had just released a surprise track ‘Stolen Moments’ as an add-on to his previous EP ‘Blood Type’.
Compared to other tracks in the EP, ‘Stolen Moments’ has a more minimalistic acoustic approach—no synth, no fancy drum set, and just naked feelings. Not to mention that the subtle angelic atmosphere from his backing vocals and saxophone in this song completes the R&B and hip-hop hybrid vibe that Cautious Clay is striving for this EP.
“Ever since I started playing music, it was always about the feel. There are a lot of things in art that you can learn by practicing or studying, but feel’s not one of them. It’s something you’ve just got to have.” – Cautious Clay
Just like how he doesn’t want to be loved in ‘Joshua Tree’ or the fear of being used in ‘Cold War’, the new release explores the depth of the artist’s love insecurities. ‘I don’t want to tell that you that I love you, ‘cus I think that loneliness would serve us well,’ chants Cautious Clay. The honesty in the track unhesitantly pierces through, engrossing listeners in a profound conversation.
Ahead of his re-released EP, Cautious Clay had already garnered some noticeable progress — last year, he claimed the titled “Soundcloud Artist to Watch in 2018” and was featured as a breaking artist by Zane Lowe on Beats 1. He also made a full-house debut performance last month in NYC’s crowded room at Baby’s All Right, creating an exponential buzz among new listeners who came to the show.
For those who favor vinyl records, ‘Blood Type’ will also be available on vinyl that will include the aforementioned track and another bonus track titled ‘Your Bond’.
