She recently released her single “Use Me”, which we can’t get enough of; now, Dominique has taken some time out to speak to Outlet Magazine in our exclusive interview.
We previously reviewed “Use Me” on our site and we completely loved it. It describes exactly how we’ve felt in our past relationships; we’ve all been there, willing to let someone use us, and that is exactly what they did.
Dominique has already proven that she’s a talented singer/songwriter, and she certainly has a bright future ahead of her. We can’t wait to see where her career goes.
She spoke with Outlet Magazine about the song, what it’s like being an independent artist, and what she hopes the future will bring.
Hey, Dominique, we hope you are having a good day today, what have you been up to recently?
Hey there, thank you! I’ve been working on writing new music and trying to come up with visual concepts for my next releases. I’m also working on my live show.
We are obsessed with “Use Me”, where did the inspiration of the song come from?
Thank you so much! The inspiration comes from the feeling of being desperately in love with someone to the point where you’d do anything for them, even if it’s not in your best interest.
What has the reception been like to the song?
It’s been pretty good so far, and I think a lot of people appreciate it and can relate to it.
What does the song mean to you?
It signifies a turning point in my writing and production style – from now on I’ll be using much more experimental production techniques, and only trying to write music that’s intensely emotional for me.
Could this lead to another EP release?
If I write and release more songs that I feel fit in the same category as “Use Me” then another EP may be on the way.
Are there any plans for a music video? – We’d love to see a visual to accompany this song.
I’d really love to release a music video, but it’d have to be at a time where I’d be able to utilize the appropriate budget while making it.
How did you get into music?
My dad’s a professional bass player, so he had me singing since I was a toddler. I started writing around age 8 and have kept it up ever since.
Who are your inspirations?
I’m enormously inspired by Grimes, Melanie Martinez, Allie X, Lorde, and Terror Jr.
You’ve done plenty of covers in your past, which has been your favourite?
My favorite was doing the cover for “Wonderful” by Travis Scott and The Weeknd.
What five tracks are you currently obsessed with?
“New Rules” – Dua Lipa
“Turn Up The Love” – AlunaGeorge
“Homemade Dynamite” – Lorde
“Sober” – Lorde
“Bodak Yellow” – Cardi B
What should we expect from you in the future?
A lot more music, and a kick-ass live show.
What things motivates you?
Other artists that release thoughtful, genius music
If you could collaborate with someone, who would it be and why?
I’d love to collaborate with Felix Snow because I really look up to him as producer.
What is it like being an independent artist?
It’s pretty freeing, but it can be difficult funding and doing everything yourself.
Have you got any advice to people who are considering a career in music?
Listen to as much music as you can, but still make sure yours is distinctly different from everyone else’s. Put your whole heart and soul into your lyrics and melodies and push your music as much as you can.
Thank you so much Dominique for this exclusive interview. We enjoyed chatting to you and we still can’t get over how amazing “Use Me” is. We can’t wait for new music.
Her single “Use Me” is available to download and stream now! We expect more new music from her in the near-future but, as you wait, we highly recommend you check out her other songs. Make sure you keep up to date with Dominique as we believe she’ll go viral pretty soon.
