Earlier this year, the eccentric Seattle-born band Fleet Foxes performed at the Sydney Opera House opening Vivid Live 2017, their first return to Sydney in five years after the band went on hiatus. Fleet Foxes showed that the absence had only made them stronger musicians with spectacular performances as the crowds welcomed them with open arms. The Australian later described the show as “spellbinding” and a perfect display of the band’s “originality and vocal and instrumental dexterity.”
Handsome Tours are now excited to announce that Fleet Foxes will be making their fast return to Australia this December and January. The band are set to perform at all upcoming Falls Festival dates which will take place in Lorne, Marion Bay, Byron Bay and Fremantle. To coincide with this, they have also locked in an exclusive headline show at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne on Wednesday 3rd January. Tickets for Falls Festival are available now and tickets for the Melbourne headline show will be available for pre-sale on 27th September and general sale 28th. All sets will include songs from their newest album Crack-Up.

Crack-Up was written solely by guitarist and lead vocalist Robin Pecknold who also produced the album with the help of bandmate Skyler Skjelset. The album was released in June of this year led by the single ‘Third of May/Ōdaigahara’ and is the first album to be released by Fleet Foxes in six years. During this break, principal songwriter Pecknold was pursuing a BA in English at Columbia University and brainstorming new and innovative ways to make music – this could explain how Crack-Up contains a far more progressive sound than any of their earlier work. Over the brief time in which the album has been released it has received critical acclaim with critics labelling it a welcome return.
“At a time when indie-rock seems to be growing more culturally marginal by the day, Crack-Up is a defiant artistic statement, an album that dares to feel important.”
– New York Times
“Accomplished, multi-layered and emotionally resonant, a dazzling step forward into new territory.”
– Rolling Stone
“Likely to be the most remarkable album you will hear this year…the return of one of the most original bands of this century.”
– The Times (UK)

The band’s hiatus followed the success of their self-titled debut album and second album Helplessness Blues. Both previous albums achieved critical and commercial acclaim – charting in numerous countries, including reaching the Top 10 in Australia, the UK and the US. These albums led them to win the UK’s UNCUT Music Award Prize as well as a Grammy nomination.
Fleet Foxes continue their success with stunning performances all across the world, leaving crowds in awe with their unique earthy sound.
