There is no questioning that the last few years have been victorious for the Academy Award nominated actress and multi-platinum selling recording artist Hailee Steinfeld. Steinfeld’s newest track ‘Let Me Go’ enlists a powerhouse team of collaborators, with Steinfeld performing on the track with one of the US’s best-selling acts Florida Georgia Line and produced by Grammy nominated DJ and producer Alesso along with singer songwriter, producer and guitarist watt. The team released the track on the 8th September via Republic / Island Records.
‘Let Me Go’ is all about not being in love with the person you’re in a relationship with. The lyrics in the first verse talk about how the relationship is very one sided and unhealthy, “You made plans and I, I made problems, we were sleeping back to back, we know this thing wasn’t built to last.” As the chorus comes in, the lyrics talk about hoping that their partner finds someone who can love and appreciate them in a way that they couldn’t, “I’ve been hoping somebody loves you in the ways I couldn’t, somebody’s taking care of all the mess I’ve made, someone you don’t have to change.”
Though the genres of each collaborator couldn’t be more different, the team really make it work. The track serves an upbeat pop anthem, even though the lyrics are focused on quite a sad subject matter and the tropical house-influenced drop is sure to have anyone moving to the beat. This is a track that is sure to get a fair bit of radio play, so make sure to give it a listen before it becomes the biggest song of spring (or autumn depending where you are in the world.
