Tyler the Creator has released the third preview to his forthcoming album in the latest track, ‘Boredom’. The song itself is almost an antonym to the title, featuring the likes of Rex Orange County and Anna Of the North with additional backing vocals from Corinne Bailey Rae. The track flows through the melodic voices of ROX and AOTN before being contrasted by the very identifiable voice of Tyler the Creator. While on opposite ends of the spectrum the whole track is incredibly coherent and seamless through transitions, displaying a bit more of a slowed pace than what we’ve come to expect from Tyler.
‘Boredom’ adds to ‘Who Dat Boy’ and ‘911/Mr Lonely’ as pre-releases to the rappers upcoming album, ‘FLOWER BOY’, released 21st July. Like the latest release, the other two tracks feature some big name features in the forms of A$AP Rocky and Frank Ocean. ‘Who Dat Boy’ also features Tyler’s maiden voyage into the directing world with the accompanying music video that is weird to say the least. This weirdness has become synonymous to Tyler and his group and has amounted nearly 10 million views within a week of its release. The 14 song album features two covers, one of which was designed Tyler himself, and the other designed by artist Eric White.
2017 is shaping up to be a massive year for the rapper who also recently announced a collaboration with Converse via a very typical ‘Tyler the Creator’ video. On top of this the rapper also has two television shows, ‘Nuts + Bolts’ and ‘The Jellies’, due to air in the coming months on Viceland and the Comedy Channel respectively.
