Former game developer – who used to work for Sega! – Tom Szirtes apparently also has a musical side. “Barely Breathing”, released under Yen Recordings, is an album of strong melodies and delicate electric drums that works far beyond the genres of often-narrow stylistic range. The single itself filled with trippy, electronica sounds that will probably reminds you of Moby from a few years back. He uses vocal samples and bells sounds, covered with subtle chilled out tunes that gives it a, somewhat, cinematic sound. It’s the kind of sounds you’d have in the background when you to just relax, or in need of soothing sounds while working.
Other songs on the album, like”Solstice” or “Constitution Hill” has the same vibe of relaxation and reflextion which is somewhat a theme of this album that shouldn’t be so surprising, considering Tom is a classical trained musician that has been exploring his craft way beyond just the musical platform, obviously. With Yen, Tom is allowed to create music with freedom outside of the boundaries of dance music, something that he’s been associated with for the last decade.
So if you’re looking for an album that’s crafted by a sound anchored with hugging synths, piano keys, and a true sense of narrative build, you’ll find that in this album.
