Releasing his debut single this week is Harry Styles, titled “Sign of the Times”. He is famous for being one-fourth of One Direction, who are currently on hiatus. All the members of the boy band are currently focusing on solo music, and it’s no surprise that they’ve all taken a different musical genre route to that of One Direction.
For Harry Styles, he has decided to go for more of a soft-rock route, with “Sign of the Times” being an impassioned ballad of a song. This 1970s-inspired sound works well with his voice and his style.
Produced by Jeff Bhasker and co-written by Harry Styles, himself; this song is no doubt popular around the world and will follow in the footsteps of previous band-mates’ releases and chart globally. The song had additional production from Alex Salibian and Tyler Johnson.
The song is clearly about loss, and feels very dream-like. It easily reflects upon the past whilst making it current and new. This isn’t the sort of music we’re used to seeing in the charts nowadays, and it’s a total refreshment to see a reinvention of this sort of music making waves and ripples within the music industry. This is definitely a defining track.
“Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles is available to download and stream now. There will be an accompanying music video, directed by Yoann Lemoine, released later this month. It was filmed in Scotland around Isle of Skye.
For promotion of the song, Harry Styles will appear on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, for his first television performance, on 15 April 2017. The show will be broadcast live for the first time ever, across the U.S. in all time zones from coast-to-coast. He will follow this up, a week later, on 21 April 2017, with another TV performance, this time on the British BAFTA-Award winning BBC talk show The Graham Norton Show.
