Amy Shark is one of those rare artists that capture the hearts of everyone around them because of, quite frankly, her really great songs.
In an era where electronic music is overwhelmingly dominating the charts, her music follows that same trend while also carrying a glimmer of the ‘girl with a guitar’ day’s of the early 2000’s. Her new single ‘ Don’t Turn Around’ (written by Shark and produced by Dann Hume), was in fact originally a stripped back tune. Of the new single, Shark says: ‘…while I was recording it, I was listening to Post Malones’s first album ‘Stoney’ a lot and the production ended up swaying that way.’
The song begins with a strummed acoustic guitar before the 808 beat and rhythmic vocals hit in tandem. Staying true to her singer/songwriter roots, Amy brilliantly tells a story. ‘It’s a song that talks about the desire to run into someone you have feelings for, a history with who knows you too well’ she explains.
Gone are the days of the cool girls saying ‘You can’t sit with us’, Amy Shark put’s the ‘double o’ in ‘cool’ whilst not only sharing her music, but her journey via social media. It all begs the question to be asked: ‘is this the new pop rock?’.
Anybody with a penchant for a homegrown Aussie success story will enjoy following Amy as she continues to slay it in Australia, and abroad. Since performing on The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallen, as well as taking home Best Pop Release and Breakthrough Artist at the 2017 ARIA awards, Amy has recently returned from her US tour and is currently gearing up for tour dates across Australia in August and September.
